File Caching / Opportunistic Locking is an operating system setting which could contribute to network-related issues.Network related issues: Occasionally you may receive Sharing Violation errors due to network misconfiguration.Check with your network technician when performing this step. Use the Server's Computer Management Tool to verify currently open files and disconnect improperly locked files.Restarting the server should release any of the open files that did not clear due to various reasons such as network settings (opportunistic locking / file caching) or application crashes. Server Locks: Many times when you install an application that is attempting to override a number of files on your share / network, if those files that are marked to be overridden / replaced with a new version are locked or are in use by another application, you will receive the following error: Sharing Violation, the file is in use by another application and the installation process will stop.Ī common reason for files getting locked on the server is due to the application crashing.Check with your network technician with regard to the permissions setup on your network.
